Poetry is a lynchpin of the Literary Arts programme at SOTA. It offers the opportunity for our students to understand the art of precise and concise self expression through the interplay of language, emotions, sound and rhythm, and how poetic form supports content.
In Year 1, students read a variety of poems and poetic forms by writers from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. In Year 3, they tackle classical poetic forms such as the ballad, sonnet and villanelle. In Year 4, students experiment with the architecture of the poem, play with language and different voices.
