The Space Between Us

2020

Late night brings the whispers of Christmas day.
I wonder if it’s different over there,
where the trees don’t grow as cold as the air.
Atlantic Daylight times keep you at bay,
reminders of the distance giving way.
This is how our lives exist now, dis-paired.
I fear our hearts will meld and disrepair.
Can you feel my love, even far away?

Early, rises the sun after lurking,
reaching through treetops and bitter morning.
I reach for borders I long to break through.
Equators that split us apart warping,
the depths between us no longer foreign.
When I gaze into your heart, I see you.
